Cider & Cheese Tasting!
Join us on Wednesday 13th August for a midweek event as part of our Cider & Perry Festival. Throughout the week we’ll be offering a great selection of cider and perry, but this is really the main event!
Tom Oliver, of Oliver’s Cider, will be present to take you through a tasting of four of his ciders, which will be expertly matched to four artisan cheeses from Dartmouth Park’s Truffles Delicatessen.
This is a great informal opportunity to meet a master of the craft and pass some lovely things across your lips as well. Of course there will be plenty more cider to purchase afterwards!

£10 ticket covers 4 x 1/3s of cider, and a select portion of cheese with each 1/3.
The Duke’s Head CIder & Perry Festival
From 9th – 16th August we’ll be stocking up on some amazing ciders from Oliver’s Cider, Orchard Pig and London Glider. We’ll be increasing our offer on keg, with both our house cider, Sheppy’s, and Orchard Pig’s Reveller on keg.
Keep an eye on our social networks for information on specific ciders on our cask lines and on the back bar in Bag In Box.
There’ll also be a little surprise on the bar too…thanks to our friends at Orchard Pig.

Beer Blog 11th July
What a World Cup so far! But, alas, it’s nearly over.
Sweepstake update: Tom, the Manager, narrowly missed out on buying everyone a pint, with Holland exiting on penalties last night. But punters still have chance to scream ‘Fix!’, if barman Xavi ‘The Xavelin’ Clark reigns supreme with Argentina.

We recently added ALE-BRAISED brisket (instead of salted) to our Bell & Brisket menu, notably in our new Beef In A Box option. We’ve been testing a few different beers as we perfect the recipe and we’re looking to use ales and stouts going forward that we will have consistently on the bar, so that you can enjoy your beef with the beer it was braised in.
To celebrate the World Cup Final, and the advent of ale-braised brisket now being available in any of our sandwiches (excluding the Baron Beethoven, chef Charlie insists it’s not the right flavour balance, and obviously, the veggie options are a no-no), we’ll be selling any of the following brisket sandwiches at a pound cheaper, but only on Sunday 13th July.

The £10 Meal Deal on sandwiches and boxes has also been extremely popular (that’s where you upgrade with fries and extra pickles). If you can’t always get into the pub, you can also order brisket direct to your office through Bell & Brisket’s Citypantry profile (https://citypantry.com/vendor/143-The-Bell-Brisket), or of course through the pub itself if you’re local and can pick up (just give us a ring before hand so we have some notice). Local pick up can obviously include beer in our 2 pint hoppers and 4 pint growlers!

Sonnet 43’s beautiful American Pale, the second cask in a week of Hackney-based Five Points Pale and First Chop Brewing Arm’s TOC Pale. All perfect for a session!
Cheer on (maybe) the Germans, with Redwell’s Mandarina Bavaria, a 5.5% handcrafted pilsner.

Beer Blog 8th July
Liverpool Organic Brewery’s Iron Men Pale (4%) has just gone on, a great, fruity session Pale with New Zealand hops; and their Cascade (3.8%) is sitting in the cellar tapped and ready for a busy weekend.
It joins Bristol Beer Factory’s Milk Stout (4.5%) and Moor’s Old Freddy Walker (7.3%) on the cask bar, with a wide range of both breweries beer due in end of next week.
Millwhite’s Cider return to our cider cask lines with their dangerous Rum Cask (7.5%), and their refreshing Apples & Pears (5.0%). They’ll be on at some point over the next week or two, which leads us into a quick early heads up for our upcoming celebration of Cider and Perry, we’ll be having a mini festival of all things apple and pears over the week 8th August through 15th August.
Our good North London friends at Hammerton are going from strength to strength, and we’ll soon have both their cask and keg N7 Pale (5.2%) on for you to enjoy.
We enjoyed Durham’s Sonnet 43 Brewery’s Bourbon Milk Stout (4.3%) so much, we decided to get a few more. Expect to see their Steam Beer Amber Ale (3.8%) and Pale Ale (4.3%) over the next couple of weeks.
Try something a little different this weekend, keep an eye out for Celt Experience’s Shapeshifter Series, with their Celt Fuzzy on soon, a collaboration with the Super Furry Animals. A psychedelic saison yeast beer, at 5.7%, it’s going to be a real treat.

New beers and cider to us this week:
D-Day beers from A Head in a Hat Brewery:
To mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day A Head in a Hat Brewery have re-created three beers from the original Whitbread brewing logs of june 6th 1944.
‘D-Day Juno’ – brewed to the same recipe as an XX (old timey mild) ale mashed in at the heart of London at 6am on june 6th 1944 – 3% ABV
‘D-Day gold’ – brewed to the same recipe as an indian pale ale mashed in at the heart of london at midday on june 6th 1944 – 3.2% ABV
‘D-Day Sword’ – brewed to the same recipe as a pale ale mashed in at the heart of london at midnight on june 6th 1944 – 3.7% ABV All at £3.50!
We also have the Oyster Stout from Hammerton. Hammerton is a new brewery in Islington using old family recipes., the Oyster Stout is made using fresh wild maldon oysters to give the rich flavour a subtle complexity.
Finally something a little different for the cider drinkers from Orchard Pig: Ginger and Chilli Maverick’ Initial aromas of citrus and apples Sweet ginger and honey
flavours are supported and carried by a medium chilli heat. Perfect for the summer and add a slice of lime for a little extra zest.
